    NYS Assembly Hearing on the Potential Impacts of Offshore Drilling on New York

    In January, the U.S. Dept of Interior announced plans to expand offshore oil and gas drilling, including in the Atlantic Ocean off Long Island. NYS Assembly leaders from the Environmental Conservation Committee, Committee on Toxic Substances and Hazardous Wastes, and Long Island Sound Task Force will be holding a public hearing to discuss the potential impacts of offshore drilling on NY’s environment, economy, and way of life.

    Come out to the hearing to oppose offshore oil and gas drilling in the Atlantic and urge NYS leaders to continue fighting for renewable energy, not increasing our reliance on fossil fuels.

    Join us to view this 17 minute documentary film which examines the issue of affordable farmland on the East End and the Trust’s Farms for the future initiative.

    The film tells the stories of several farmers who are leasing land either owned or managed by the Trust in the face of ever-increasing pressure from development.

    Produced and directed by Michael Halsband and Hillary Leff, the film won the Audience Choice Award at the 2012 Hamptons International Film Festival.

    Panelists include the film’s director, Michael Halsband, local farmers Fred Lee of Sang Lee Farms, and Greg Kessler of The Hoppy Acre, as well as the Trust’s Senior Manager of Agricultural Programs Dan Heston. Refreshments provided.
