LIRPC Sustainability Plan Offers Roadmap for Long Island’s Future
The LIRPC, in December 2010, developed the Long Island Regional Comprehensive Sustainability Plan or LI 2035. The Plan assesses the position of Long Island relative to environmental, social, and economic sustainability and identifies the key opportunity areas and issues of concern among Long Islanders from across the region.
The strategies of LI 2035 span a spectrum of issues that address the needs of today while also positioning Long Island for tomorrow. They include tax & governance, economy, environment & infrastructure, and equity.
This package of strategies creates a positive environment for living and working on Long Island while also helping Long Island prepare for the changing economic, social and environmental context of 21st century living. To achieve this vision a series of near, mid and long-term actions are required in these areas of strategic interest. Its intent is to ensure Long Island continues to maintain a position of strength and to maintain the quality of life for which Long Island is so well known.
